Another solid Margaux with richness and depth. Full body, velvety tannins and a long and flavorful finish. All there. By James Suckling, Mar 2016.
Tasted at the Cru Bourgeois annual tasting, the 2015 La Tour de Mons did not show well during en primeur and I did not award any score. I am glad that I demurred! It has an impressive and voluminous bouquet with extrovert but not overpowering blackberry and raspberry scents complemented by crushed rose petals and crushed stone. There is fine oak integration here. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, very harmonious with freshness from start to finish. You just want to take another sip as soon as possible--job done. Singed alder and juniper notes form a slightly dusty but alluring perfumed frame around a core of gently mulled plum and blackberry fruit. Shows a light lilac accent on the finish, with the fruit lingering steadily. Best from 2020 through 2030. By Wine Spectator, Mar 2018.
From vines in the northern part of the Margaux, this wine has some of the attractive perfumed quality of the appellation layered on a powerfully dark, structured character.
