| Tasting note |
The 2009 Pastourelle de Clerc-Milon, the debut second wine of Clerc-Milon, represented around 20% of the total crop and is designed to be a more punter/restaurant friendly take on the grand vin. A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 36% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc, 1% Carmenère and 2% Petit Verdot, it has a flamboyant, almost gregarious bouquet with crème de cassis and kirsch-like aromas. The palate is ripe and rounded, easy in style thanks to its round tannin, a touch of graphite infusing the black fruit with a simple finish that leaves a dash of white pepper on the aftertaste. There is something almost New World about this wine, Chilean maybe, which I don't mean in a negative way, just that tincture of kirsch-like exoticism that surfaces with time. It does what is sets out to do - slip down the throat with ease. Tasted September 2016. By Neal Martin, Jan 2017. |
